More Campus Caution

Campus debit cards aren't all they're cracked up to be.  Student should think twice about attending a college that has a relationship with Higher One.  Most students aren't rich, as we remember from our college days.  Charging students a fee at every turn isn't in the student's best interest.  Read the fine print and avoid as many fees as possible if you can't avoid all fees.  Students should, also consider a bank or brokerage that isn't on campus and has no ties to their college of choice.  There are bank and brokerages that offer free accounts with debit cards and checks.  With the Internet and smartphones, it's not necessary that your financial institution be in the same city or state.  This opens students up to more options.
